Artist Statement

Olaitan uses what she finds in her everyday life to inspire her art. Memory traces and identity are particularly strong interests for her. As a young girl she delighted in finding small objects while walking along in her Brooklyn neighborhood. Her art work reflects this appreciation for randomly presented items. Using with her strong connection with fiber, Olaitan’s work includes sculptures, prints and photographs derived from and using wool fleece in combination with inspirations from nature (including her compost pile) and small found objects. She enjoys promoting curiosity -- both her own and others. Olaitan would like viewers to wonder “what” her images are and to enjoy their wondering about them.
